Rhuigi Villaseñor is a designer and founder of the Los Angeles-based clothing brand, Rhude. Since its inception in 2013, Rhude has become one of the most prominent streetwear brands in the industry, worn by celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike.
Rhuigi’s unique perspective and dedication to his craft have made him a source of inspiration for many.
I recently interviewed him at the Rhude summer fashion show and he dropped a ton of gems.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the interview:
- “When I started Rhude, all I wanted was a bed. Then you get a room, then you get a place. And when you get a place, you want to share all those things. So, you mark your territories but have that NorthStar, which is really the larger vision that I’ve always had.”
This quote from Rhuigi Villaseñor teaches us to keep our larger vision in sight while taking small steps towards our goals.
- “The best wines are when there’s a really dry spell because it forces the grape to really extract water from the soil. And if I was a grape, I didn’t have the water sources so I have to really extract from the soil.”
Rhuigi’s comparison to a grape teaches us to be resilient and extract strength from within during difficult times.
- “We’ve got to teach people not to search to be wanted but to go where you’re needed.”
Rhuigi reminds us to focus on where our skills and passions can be of service rather than simply seeking approval or validation.
- “I think more people need to really dig deep within the sorrows, and the struggles, because that’s the most relatable thing, I’ve found. Not that many people know how to how it feels to win but many people know what it’s like to feel a loss.”
This quote reminds us that struggles and failures are part of the human experience and can often lead to growth and resilience.
- “If you want to change the world, you’ve got to change yourself first. Like, produce the outcome for yourself first and then you can start to think about the next person, the next person and the next person.”
Rhuigi emphasizes the importance of personal growth and self-improvement as a catalyst for creating positive change in the world.
- “The toughest thing, when building a brand, is your purpose. If you really love cooking, you got to really dig deep into that that thing, you know. You need to be able to distinguish yourself from others. That is the most important thing.”
This quote highlights the importance of finding our purpose and distinguishing ourselves from others in order to succeed in our passions.
- “I feel like oftentimes we look back into and be like, ‘I don’t want to say I wanted a billion dollars because it sounds so tacky.’ But I wanted a billion dollars! We get so caught up in this conversation of trying to appease and make people feel comfortable. And I think for me to stand true to my brand, I gotta be Rhude.”
Rhuigi encourages us to stay true to our passions and goals, even if they may seem unconventional or ambitious.
Rhuigi Villaseñor’s quotes teach us valuable life lessons about resilience, self-improvement, and staying true to our passions.
His unique perspective on building a brand and creating positive change in the world serves as an inspiration for all those pursuing their dreams.
